OUR ORIGIN STORY

It all started over a bonfire by the creek. Kids running barefoot, a table not long enough for the food, and a few beers. These cookouts started as a way to make friends among the small local farmers in the area, most of whom work at the local farmers markets. However, the more we got to know one another the more we realized that we all shared similar passions: we wanted to help other people become self-sustainable in our community, along with having high-quality food available. We valued whole foods and creating true flavor that came, not from artificial flavors and additives, but from the food itself. We knew the quality of our heirloom harvest would taste much better than the artificial food most people would bring home. So we began to get together and share recipes and ideas on how to bring out the best flavors of each harvest, into a form that was most appealing to others. Whether it was jellies, sauces, fermented, or fresh.

We didn't want to stop there though, this idea wasn't meant to simply make us money. It was meant to inspire others to want to create their own Homesteads too! Homesteads would not only provide high-quality flavorful food but also informed and self-sustaining homesteaders. We created affordable classes that would guide new or old Homesteaders toward a more efficient and abundant harvest. Harvest that would bring them health, Flavor, and the ability to forego grocery stores altogether. Through trial and error, we discovered which heirloom varieties grew best in the Appalachian Mountains, giving us our slogan: "Taste the Mountains"!

If you visit the Farmers Markets in Landrum, Morganton, Forest City, or Shelby; you will likely meet our team members selling our freshly picked heirloom produce, experience our seasonal Flavors, and gain knowledgeable insight on any questions you might have. Our team consists of experienced and passionate small local Homesteaders and foragers who truly love what they do, and want to help you become self-sustainable too.
